THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) increased the assessment fees for various technical-vocational education and training (TVET) programs.

This came after review of board members, technical experts and the National Tax Research Center. It said the high inflation rate has significantly affected assessors and the cost of operations of assessment centers (AC).

“Factors considered for the new rates are utilities, space rentals, tools and equipment, supplies and materials, assessor’s fees and AC’s personnel salary,” Tesda said in a statement.

The assessor’s fee for three priority sectors — agriculture, forestry and fishery and health and construction went up from ₱234 to ₱319.

Assessors gauge and evaluate students’ proficiency and competency in the field in which they are being trained. Assessors are experts in their fields and they work closely with Tesda trainers to cultivate learning and expertise with their trainees.

Tesda said the increase aims to attract more assessors to apply.

Meanwhile, the assessor’s fee for 32 qualifications also increased last August. Ten are from the agriculture and fishery sector and the remaining 22 are from the construction sector.

As of December, 143 qualifications have also adjusted their assessment fee, while their assessor’s fee remains at ₱234.

The remaining 114 qualifications are still adopting the ₱500 assessment fee as set by the National Economic Development Authority but will soon be reviewed and updated.
